2023 Symposiums

Ottawa Conference and Event Centre
200 Coventry Rd, Ottawa, ON K1K 4S3

As the public sector emerges from the pandemic, many issues confront professional public servants across jurisdictions and challenge the whole public sector.

Planning, performance measurement, monitoring, evaluation and reporting functions are not ends in themselves – they are central for improving policies, programs and service delivery. Integration of performance measurement systems into the public and private sector remains a goal to be realized.

Our theme for 2023 is “The Future-Fit Public Sector: Designing and Delivering Programs and Services”.

We will be building on the core mission of PPX and the expressed needs of our members to support continuous learning and improvement in our community.

Under this banner, we will be pursuing the following three streams:

What We Are Doing?

High-level issues, including:  the environment and sustainable development; the role of public audit; truth and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples; and digital transformation.

Why Do We Need to Change?

The drivers and conditions for renewal including: The Strategic Policy (Spending) Review; the role of an evaluator general; the Review of the 2016 Treasury Board Policy on Results; and Capacity Gaps.

How Will We Know We’re Getting There?

The use of results-based management in planning, performance measurement, audit, evaluation and reporting — and related areas such as risk management.

PPX invites you to participate in the 26th Annual Symposium by submitting a proposal for a presentation (in English or French) or joining in a panel discussion. The Symposium program will be posted on the PPX web site (PPX.ca) in the near future.

This year’s theme is: “The Future-Fit Public Sector: Designing and Delivering Programs and Services”.

We are looking for enthusiastic, professional, and engaged thinkers and practitioners across the public and private sector, civil society, and academia to address current and emerging issues and to share promising practices at the Symposium. The event will take place at the Ottawa Conference and Event Centre in Ottawa on October 25 – 26, 2023. We are also planning pre-symposium training workshops (date TBD).

The Symposium theme will be pursued under three streams:

  1. “What We Are Doing?” High-level issues, including: the environment and sustainable development; the role of public audit; truth and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples; and digital transformation.
  2. “Why Do We Need to Change?” The drivers and conditions for renewal including: the Strategic Policy (Spending) Review; the role of an evaluator general; the Review of the 2016 Treasury Board Policy on Results; and Capacity Gaps.
  3. “How Will We Know We’re Getting There?” The use of results-based management in planning, performance measurement, audit, evaluation and reporting — and related areas such as risk management.

We are pleased to announce the 2023 PPX Symposium will be returning for the first time in three years to an in-person event! It’s a great opportunity to reconnect and come together as a professional community.

Many excellent speakers from our planning and performance community will present over the two days, including:

  • Bonnie Lysyk, Auditor General of Ontario
  • Jeannine Ritchot, Assistant Deputy Minister, Multilateral Affairs, Privy Council Office
