Allain Barnett joined Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) in September 2020. With NRCan’s GBA Plus Centre of Expertise with the Strategic Policy and Innovation Sector, he has consulted with departmental sectors to compile best practices in GBA Plus Data collection, collaborated with economic analysis and data teams to build data collection resources and training materials, and provided guidance to programs and drafters looking to build the capacity to measure the performance of programs by gender and diversity. Allain has also worked with NRCan’s Uranium and Radioactive Waste Division on radioactive waste management policy analysis and stakeholder engagement.
Prior to joining NRCan, he developed his experience in research, data collection, and engagement through two post-doctoral positions, the first examining environmental risk, fisheries policy, and fishing household vulnerability in Atlantic Canada, and another on justice, equity, and urban resilience planning for climate change and sea level rise in Miami, Florida. He has a PhD in environmental social science from Arizona State University, and an M.Sc. in aquatic ecology from Université du Québec à Montréal.
